In second grade, I got a new science experiment book and was dying to conduct the experiments. So my parents bought me supplies for a project I had fallen in love with: Lemon Battery. I was VERY curious to discover the secret of the lemon’s energy! (I was 8. Cut little me some slack!)
After creating it, I wanted to showcase my work, somewhere just for science. Fortunately for me, there was a Steam Fair at my school. Everyone loved my project-even though there were about 5 other lemon batteries at the fair.
To my surprise and joy, I was selected to represent my school at the San Joaquin County Fair, where my project won me 2nd place!
When I met the judges during my interview, I was mostly elated, but a little part of me was feeling a bit jittery. After all, it was my first time doing the STEAM Fair.
The ONE thing I was really afraid of was something now I feel ‘Why was I afraid of that?’ My fear was: what if the judges ask me something beyond my knowledge!?
They actually did, but I realized I was not going to let them intimidate me, so I answered from my heart and got it CORRECT!!
This simple lemon battery project was actually what made me realize I wanted to be a scientist!
I hope this encourages little but big dreamer to follow a project or something they love resulting in their dream career! I was so excited to tell you about my first steam fair project.
