Colorful children’s book cover showing a girl and a friendly leprechaun in a magical leprechaun village with rainbow, gold nuggets, and a cozy leprechaun house — Who Knew? The Leprechaun Houses Are Awesome by Anahita, Adventures with Anahita blog.

One sunny St. Patrick’s Day, I was looking for gold on the warm, sandy beaches of the Bahamas when I found a ditch. I knelt down on the sand and peered down the hole. I used my phone to light it up and saw a chute illuminating with chunks of gold.

I dropped my phone, so I stuck my hand in so far that I lost my balance and fell right in. I slid down and down and down until I fell on a mining cart full of rocks. When I looked closely, I realized they were gold nuggets.

My phone was nowhere to be seen, so I looked for it. I accidentally stubbed my toe and let out a thump. The echo of the thump echoed through the tunnel.

“Hey! Who’s there?” a tiny voice yelled.

I dove into the mining cart and dug deeper and deeper into the gold so the person in the tunnel could not see me. I peered out of the cart and saw a tiny little man walking toward the cart I was in with a pickaxe on his shoulder.

I gasped as I realized who he was.
“A leprechaun!” I thought excitedly, staring in awe.

He started to pull the cart.

“Oh no,” I thought, panicked. “I’ll find my phone later.”

Soon, we were out of the dark and in a neighborhood of small houses. I felt lucky instantly. The leprechaun who was pulling the cart I was in entered a house and brought out an abnormal pump-shaped bottle that he placed in front of the wheel like a doorstop.

When he went back in, I snuck out of the cart. I saw a potion on a table outside. I gulped it down and I began to shrink to a leprechaun’s size.

Once the shrinking stopped, I started to look at the house. It was a squat, green Irish home with gold roof shingles and four-leaf clover gardens.

When I walked inside, there was clover-patterned wallpaper. Bouquets of sprucy clovers.

There were shoes stuck on the roof. The smell of Lucky Charms and cereal floated through the air.

A shoe mill was tucked into a corner, grinding. Compared to the outside, the inside was much bigger.

As I strolled through the house, I saw the silhouette of the leprechaun.

“Oh no,” I whispered.

As quick as a whip, I hid under the shoe mill.

“Let the leprechaun be a figment of my imagination,” I prayed as the leprechaun approached.

I closed my eyes and opened them. To my dismay, he was still there.

I pinched myself.

“Oh!” I whispered.

My heart was pounding faster and faster until…

Ding!

A timer went off, echoing through the hall.

“Oh! My cookies!” the leprechaun yelled.

Then he rushed into the hall, and I heard the rattling of a cookie tray.

I crawled out of the shoe mill, relieved, and peeked into the kitchen. The leprechaun was vigorously mixing a batch of icing and iced the cookies gracefully.

I dashed up the stairs where I saw rainbows that desperately wanted to get out. Gold nuggets were scattered on the floor.

As I was walking, I stepped into a rainbow portal.

“AAH!” I screamed as I fell down.

Thump!

I landed right in front of the leprechaun as he was walking to the shoe mill.

“Hi,” he said in a cheery voice.
“Are you looking for this?” he asked inquisitively, holding out my phone.

“Yes!” I replied, happy to get my phone back.

I grabbed the phone and hugged him. I thanked him happily.

As I was leaving, I got an idea.

I asked, “Can you give me a tour of the house?”

At the same time, the leprechaun asked, “Care for a house tour?”

“Sure!” I replied.

“By the way,” he said, “my name is Luck.”

Luck took me into the closet, the kitchen, and even the bathroom.

“And the backyard — my personal favorite,” he said.

As he opened the sliding door, I braced myself.

The yard was far better than I could ever imagine.

Fountains here and there spouted rainbow water. Clover gardens were planted wildly, making the garden unique. It was breathtaking.

“Wow,” I said, mesmerized.
“This is amazing.”

After the garden, we walked to the kitchen chatting about our lives.

And then I told him that there is no such thing as too many fountains.

“Take it from me,” Luck said as I started to giggle.

When we got to the kitchen, Luck smashed a cookie with no icing into a bowl of Lucky Charms which was submerged in rainbow water.

He stirred it all together and popped it in the oven.

While we waited for the mixture to cook, we snacked on the cookies Luck made.

Luck poured the mixture into popsicle molds and froze it for six minutes.

He iced the popsicles with gold icing.

“Here. This is our national dessert,” Luck said, handing me one of the popsicles.

Before I could take a lick, Luck yelled, “Wait!”

He handed both popsicles to me and scurried out of the room.

A minute later he returned with two four-leaf clovers.

He garnished both popsicles and between a lick I said,

“WOW! This is a flabbergasting treat!”

“How do I get back home?” I asked once I was done eating.

“I know a way,” Luck said.
“Come on, let’s go!”

We ran out of the house and Luck led me to a ladder.

“This is your exit,” Luck said.

“Oh, and before you go — here.”

He handed me a snow globe and a bubble.

He told me that the snow globe was a statue of the neighborhood and by saying “leprechaun” I could enter the neighborhood, and the bubble was for putting on top of the ditch so no one could enter.

He checked my phone to see if I had filmed the house.

“I promise, Luck, I didn’t take any pictures,” I told him honestly.

“Okay,” he said.
“I trust you.”

“Until next time, Luck,” I said sadly.

He handed me a glass of potion and I drank it.

I went back to my original size.

“Your house is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Take care!” I hollered to Luck.

“Bye!” Luck hollered back.
“I’ll miss you!”

I climbed the ladder.

Once I was back on the sandy beaches, I placed the bubble on the hole so there would not be a ditch.

It may be true that no one knows — except for me and Luck — that a human entered a leprechaun’s home, but it is an unforgettable experience.

I knew that I had accomplished something no one can ever do in a lifetime.

I’m looking forward to meeting Luck again.

The End
