It was a dark and grim night. I was at my friend Hauntly’s birthday party. Since she was born on Halloween, we celebrated at a haunted house. As Hauntly and I walked into the dimly lit house, I felt goosebumps. Hauntly was enjoying this. She had always been drawn to the Halloween spirit.

“So, what made you want to have a haunted house birthday party?” I asked her.

“Well, I wanted to have a haunted house birthday because of the fact I am now eleven and I enjoy spooky stuff,” she answered, clearly not feeling as scared as me.

All of a sudden, a ghost peeked out of a bathroom. “AAAAHHHH!!” I screamed.

I turned to see Hauntly glaring at me for being scared at a minor scare, her birthday crown saying “Hauntly Haunts”, shimmering in the blood colored lights.

Just then as we walked around the corridor, a zombie jumped out. I wasn’t even scared this time. I was more terrified of Hauntly’s death stare. It was extremely horrifying, especially on her birthday.

The zombie was covered in blood, with some limbs poking out of his body. I wouldn’t say it was scary, but totally gross.

“Ugh!!” I screeched.

Along the way, we met a friend named Auralie. We continued marching throughout the whole haunted house. Finally, we reached the last door. But it needed a key.

“Have we seen a key on our way over here?” I asked.

“No,” answered both Hauntly and Auralie.

“Wait a minute. When we were walking along the corridor, through that room with huge spiders, I saw a key hanging from one of their mouths,” Auralie admitted.

“So, we’re l-l-locked in?” asked Hauntly, scared.

Then, Hauntly started to cry. I didn’t think anything scared her, till now. She was afraid of being locked in!

Howl! Booooooo!

“This kinda looks like one of my hair clips,” said Hauntly, after her meltdown.

She stuck the clip into the key hole, and it clicked. We were out!

In the distance, we could see a dim flickering light of birthday candles.

We ran and ran toward it. It was Hauntly’s birthday cake! It was a spider decorated cake, with chocolate spider and a vanilla mousse.

“Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you dear Hauntly! Happy birthday to you!” We sang.

After cutting slices of cake, Hauntly, Auralie and I sat down on a log and enjoyed our dulce de leche cake. “Happy 11th birthday Hauntly!” we said.
