Chapter 1: The Windy Halloween

Whoosh! It was a windy Halloween when my friends Trixie, Lila, and I were out trick-or-treating. I was dressed as a black cat, Trixie was Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, and Lila was Riley from Inside Out.

We had our bags full of candy, reaching to the brim. Its aroma was tempting us, but we resisted. Finally, I ate a piece of candy — it tasted so yummy, like a sugary heaven.

Suddenly, during the fun, a gust of wind swirled around and around, lifting us into the air.

“Guys, I don’t feel so good!” yelled Lila.

“Hold on! I think we’re going to land!” Trixie shouted back.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

We all landed in a heap on the ground. When we got up, we saw that we were standing in front of a gate that protected a run-down castle!

“Oh no!” I said.

“I don’t think we’re in the trick-or-treating route,” said Lila, worried.

“Don’t worry, guys. Maybe there’s someone who can help us inside,” I said.

So, we walked inside — only to be disgusted by a horrible smell that we thought was a brew of stinky, sweaty socks.

Chapter 2: The Mad Scientist

We followed the choking smell and saw a mad scientist! He noticed us and shouted, “I’m going to get you!”

We ran and ran at a flabbergasting speed. Finally, we outran him.

“I cannot believe he was a mad scientist!” I said in a panicky voice.

“What do you expect? This is a run-down castle,” said Trixie, rolling her eyes.

“I can hear you!” yelled the mad scientist, and we saw him bolt toward us.

“AAAHHHH!!!” we all screamed.

We ran and ran until we couldn’t run anymore.

“Does—huff—he ever—puff—give up? Do you know how hard it is to run in this costume?” asked Trixie, panting.

“Let’s hide in here!” whispered Lila.

We hid under the covers of a moldy blanket on a stinky bed. Suddenly, we were shocked to see a ghost muttering to herself.

“Hi! My name is Chatterbox, and I got my name because I talk too much. And I’m a ghost — I think you know that already.”

“How does she get that much air in her lungs?” Lila asked.

“I dunno,” I said.

Chapter 3: The Ghostly Helper

Soon we interrupted the ghost and explained our pickle to her. After understanding, she said, “I might be able to help you.”

Then she dashed down the hall with us at her heels until we stopped in a dark room.

“Now don’t make a sound or turn on the lights,” Chatterbox said.

So, we tippy-toed through the room — until Lila tripped on a wire, which turned on the lights.

“Oopsie,” Lila said, worried.

Just then, a group of bats swooped down into our faces.

“Run!” shouted Trixie.

We all ran until we reached the end of the room.

“At least we made it,” I said.

Just then, I tripped backward and felt something slimy on my head.

“Oh! Eww! Gross!” I said in disgust.

I turned around to see a three-headed monster dog.

“Aaahhhh!” I screamed in fright.

Chapter 4: Melody and McKensie

The three-headed monster dog looked ferocious — it was so scary but kinda cute. On its neck was a collar saying McKensie.

Suddenly, a pretty, cute girl came and said, “I am so sorry about my dog. Oh! I forgot to introduce myself — my name is Melody. Melody Harper,” she said excitedly.

“I’m so excited to see someone else other than my dog, ghosts, and other weird things — like that mad scientist,” she added.

“That’s okay. This is Trixie and this is Lila, Melody,” I said.

“Hi!” they said, elated.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you guys. Come meet my sister,” Melody said.

Soon we were in a tiny room. Chatterbox said to call her when we needed help.

“This is Valentina,” said Melody.

“Hi,” said Valentina.

Then we explained that we needed help — over a nice hot cup of cocoa with marshmallows and peppermint sticks.

Chapter 5: The Vanishing Door

After a while, we all went out. Turns out they had also been stuck there, trying to get out.

Then we left for the door, hoping to escape. Soon we reached it — but suddenly, the door vanished without a trace! In its place stood a strong wall.

“Noooo!” we all screamed.

“Ha ha ha! You thought you could escape — well, you can’t!” yelled the mad scientist.

Just as he appeared, we saw he had a remote in his hand. When he clicked it, the floor disappeared and we fell in, yelling “Aaaaahhhhhh!”

We had fallen into a pit.

“Nooo!” Lila screamed.

Chapter 6: The Ghostly Rescue

When all hope was lost, I saw a ladder and said, “Look, guys! There’s a ladder up there!”

“Don’t yell — he might hear us,” said Melody.

After a lot of brainstorming, Trixie’s light bulb was flickering — but finally, it turned on.

“Guys, I got it! We can stand on each other’s shoulders! Then we’ll be able to reach the ladder!” she said.

“Quiet! The mad scientist will hear us!” Melody warned.

But it was too late. The mad scientist heard us and pulled the ladder up.

“Ha ha ha!” he yelled into the pit.

Then I remembered what Chatterbox had said. I yelled, “Chatterbox!”

Suddenly, she appeared — with a hundred other ghosts! They lifted us and made us invisible.

Since we were invisible, we could go through the wall. We soon landed outside.

“Thank you!” we all said.

The ghosts said, “You’re welcome,” and disappeared — except Chatterbox.

She turned into a wedding bride.

“Thank you,” she said. “I am so grateful.”

“You’re welcome,” we said.

Chapter 7: Back Home

Finally, another gust of wind swirled around us and dropped us back home.

Our moms and dads were very worried. They inquisitively interrogated, “Where were you! We were so scared!”

Trixie, Lila, and I winked at each other and said, “It’s a long story.”

Me, Lila, and Trixie would never forget our crazy, adventurous, and flabbergasting Halloween.

The End… or is it?
